Before SOCWeld

Semco Maritime documented their welding work the way most contractors do: on paper. Forms were filled in on site, stuffed into a pocket, and entered into a system later from the office. It always meant a double workload: write it down, log it afterwards.

At the end of a project, a controller would gather all documents and compile the final package. It was time-consuming, and the team was always slightly behind. NDT inspectors had to be physically walked around the site to understand what was ready for inspection. If they found issues, the team had to go back out to identify the location and scope.

Revisions made it worse. In PDF-based workflows, a design change meant starting over almost from scratch: re-entering weld points, rebuilding the document, losing time that should have gone to the work itself.

It worked. But it cost hours nobody should have been spending.

"Now it's done when we're done. I'm completely sure that when we're finished, I have all the documentation."

How SOCWeld changed their workflow

With SOCWeld, Semco Maritime moved their entire documentation process onto a digital platform. Supervisors log weld points directly in the app as the work progresses. Project managers can monitor status in real time from the office, down to the percentage.

NDT inspectors check the app themselves to see exactly what is ready and where. If they find issues, they log them directly, and the team knows immediately what to address and where. No extra site visits. No phone calls to describe a location.

When changes happen on site, engineers can update the weld log remotely. A call from the site is enough to understand the change, make the update, and keep everyone aligned without a physical drawing being passed back and forth.

Revisions, which previously meant starting over almost from scratch in PDF documents, now simply require an update. All weld points are retained automatically.

And when the project is finished, so is the documentation.

"If our competitors aren't using it, they're still doing a lot of unnecessary manual work. We have it digitally — that's clearly an advantage."

What changed
50%
Reduction in documentation time

Weld points are logged in real time as work progresses. No end-of-project assembly, no controller compiling documents after the fact.

100%
Audit-ready at all times

All weld points are traceable from the moment they are logged. When an auditor asks, the documentation is already there.
